Princess Diana's everlasting impact on the fashion industry has been well documented, and there's no denying how her '80s tailoring and off-duty mom-jean outfits have filtered into the 2018 aesthetic. But there's one memorable look from 1990 that also draws modern-day parallelser—her bold, two-toned, black-and-white gown suddenly seems of-the-moment once more. Hey, fashion is cyclical after all. And whether you call it two-tone, bicolor, or color blocking, the trend is appearing on the runways, on the streets, and in our favorite shops.
Every fashion lover worth her salt will recall that it wasn't so long ago that Céline produced mismatched two-tone ankle boots and sandals (both of which were picked up by the street style set in a flash). And this season, one can simply look to Roksanda's spring 2018 presentation for a wealth of style inspiration.
Where monochromatic black and white has long been the favored twosome, spring style is going beyond basic neutrals to a world of bold combinations. Of all the pairs, pink and red continue to reign supreme. Another winner is two-toned denim (just take a note from Vetements and Frame). While we can thank Demna Gvasalia for putting the look on the map, it’s only gained momentum over the past year, with many iterations currently on the market from subtly contrasting hues to bold mixes.
Now...we know there's a wealth of two-tone treasures out there. Here are some of our favorites for you to shop...
