Winter and its sub-freezing temperatures are officially here. And for the next few months there’s no escaping those dreaded wind-burned cheeks, ice cold steering wheels, and frozen fingers. And of course, there's always the fun task of finding creative ways to layer every wool sweater you own so you don't get hypothermia...unless you're one of the lucky few still soaking up 70-degree temps in California. If so, can we please come over?
Dressing for the long winter and pulling it off in a stylish way can sometimes be a tall order. And since we resolved to minimalize our wardrobes this year (at least a little bit), we have to rely on a handful of pieces that can do double-duty. So after much careful research, we think we've nailed that whole winter capsule wardrobe thing with five closet essentials that will keep us equal parts warm and stylish...
• • •
First, the turtleneck. This top is the ultimate layering piece—worn with high-waisted jeans or under a dress, it lends a sophisticated spin to any look.
• • •
Next, a heavier sweater is perfect for mornings when getting out of your warm and cozy bed seems impossible.
• • •
Another winter must-have? Flat boots, of course. From ankle to over-the-knee, these babies are essential for pairing with long dresses and navigating icy sidewalks.
• • •
Speaking of dresses, kiss those stem-baring minis goodbye for the time being and opt for midi-hemlines over the next few months.
• • •
And finally, faux-fur coats are the ultimate topper for both banishing the cold and looking like a million bucks.
