Despite Pantone's 2017 Color of the Year being Greenery, a 'zesty yellow-green shade' that symbolized fresh beginnings, the year still felt pretty millennial pink to us.
So we were curious...what color would rule in early 2018?
An angsty jet-black or super-moody oxblood red, perhaps?
An angsty jet-black or super-moody oxblood red, perhaps?
It seems that this year, the color gods had a different (and much more upbeat) idea altogether. Dumroll, please...presenting Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year, Ultra-Violet, a bold purple that is said to "communicate originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future."
The bright hue has been used throughout history to represent royalty, power, wealth, extravagance, ambition, and even magic. After all, who can forget that purple power-suit Hillary Clinton wore for her 2016 concession speech? And then there are the rockstars, from the likes of Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix who all proudly and frequently donned the color.
So...how does one wear Pantone’s regal hue in real life? We can help. By far, the easiest way to wear purple is by using it sparingly as an accent. Think vibrant socks, a coordinating crossbody, or jewel-toned knitwear.
Here's to leaving the leafy green stuff of 2017 behind (except our cold-pressed juices, of course) and embracing the good vibes that Pantone's 2018 choice is bringing with it...
